Doane University has appointed Susan Larkin as its new vice president for academic affairs, effective July 1, 2025. Larkin brings more than two decades of experience in higher education leadership, faculty development and academic program innovation. She most recently served as provost and vice president for academic affairs at Virginia Wesleyan University, where she played a key role in expanding academic offerings, increasing student retention and leading institutional accreditation efforts.

“Susan’s leadership experience, strategic vision and dedication to student success make her an excellent fit for Doane University,” Doane President Roger Hughes said. “Her expertise in faculty engagement, curriculum development and academic affairs will be invaluable as we continue to advance our commitment to excellence in education.”

Larkin will begin working with Doane leadership to ensure a seamless transition into her new role. As vice president for academic affairs, she will oversee academic programming, faculty affairs, accreditation and strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing the student learning experience.

Larkin holds a doctorate in English studies from Illinois State University, with concentrations in children’s and young adult literature, women’s studies, and composition and rhetoric. 

Throughout her career, she has been recognized for her leadership in academic affairs, faculty development and student engagement.
