Counseling
College is a big change, full of exciting growth which at times can feel overwhelming. The professional staff of Doane University and our affiliates are trained to help students to respond to everyday concerns during this transitional time (relationship problems, stress, homesickness, etc.) as well as crisis situations.
Our counselors provide a free, therapeutic setting for students to address mental health concerns. We serve all individuals regardless of age, race, sex, economic status, sexual orientation, or gender expression. We treat everyone with dignity and respect.
To ensure accessibility, Doane University provides a Counseling Center on our Crete campus catering to residential students, and a Counseling Office on the nonresidential campus in Lincoln, serving both undergraduate and graduate students from Lincoln, Omaha, and Online programs. Additionally, nonresidential undergraduate students have access to no-cost services through the Continuum EAP Student Assistance Program. Your well-being is a priority, and we are here to support you throughout your college journey.
Confidentiality
Doane ensures our counseling services are in compliance with the ethical standards put in place by the American Counseling Association. Seeking counsel will not jeopardize an individual’s academic standing or relationship with the faculty and staff at Doane. Confidentiality is an important element of the therapeutic process.

Tiger Paw Pantry
The Tiger Paw Pantry is a resource for Doane students in need of non-perishable food items along with hygiene products, laundry soap, detergents, and more. Crete campus students can find pantry items in the Perry Campus Center on the lower level by the vending machines.
The Counseling Center allows students to explore and understand their own values and views. In turn, understanding themselves helps them understand the world around them.
Student Health and Wellness provides students with a variety of clinical services for a student's physical wellbeing along with educational programming focusing on the 9 different dimensions of wellness that could include mental/emotional, social to occupational wellness.
The Counseling Center empowers students to make connections through self-exploration, allowing themselves to connect with many different disciplines.
Students have the opportunity to take part in programming that involves multiple disciplines with a focus on student's learning and experience beyond their years at Doane. Health and Wellness wants to expand student's knowledge of their health and wellbeing to set a solid foundation while they are a student, so they are able to leave the institution as a strong advocate for their wellbeing.
As students seek counseling for a problem or concern, they are encouraged to process through possible solutions. Students are then able to think through problems and provide solutions which translates to real-world problems.
Health and Wellness educates students through 1:1 appointments, workshops and other events that allows for students to apply their knowledge in real life situations. For students who are seen through Health Services, staff will walk a student through the process of learning about their medication through purchasing their medication at an off-campus pharmacy.
