What is your name and title?
Georgia Thomas, College of Business (COB) and Fred Brown Center (FBC) administrative assistant
How long have you worked at Doane? What attracted you to work here?
I became a Doane Tiger on October 1, 2018, making it 5 years this coming October. What has attracted me to work here is being able to work with wonderful faculty, staff, and students. I have learned a lot about the university culture, since most of my life I have worked in the business world of banking, law, retail, medical, and real estate.
What do you consider the best part of your Doane experience?
The University surviving COVID, and the teamwork that it took to get through the worst time that I have ever experienced in my lifetime. The growth that I have been able to obtain due to opportunities and support that I have been given.
What is something you're proud of accomplishing or achieving while at Doane?
I am willing to take on additional work, when needed; my flexibility in working with the needs of the COB dean and faculty members along with the Lincoln campus directors to help with the day-to-day duties for the FBC; and the over-all needs of the Doane community.
What is some advice you would give to current students? Or, what is some advice you've received that you value?
Absorb as much knowledge as you can. If you do this you will be successful in whatever you decide to do and become a Doane Leader!
What is something you like about yourself that others may not know?
I'm a pretty open book, but for people that don't know me, I am an animal lover, divorced with one daughter and 3 granddaughters, who I am very proud of. I have had no formal training; I am self-taught; and I have A LOT of work experience. I have a very strong work ethic, which comes from several things. I lived on a farm until I graduated from Bruning High School and came to the big city of Lincoln. I was a single mother for several years, survived breast cancer, and I am very independent.
