Doane University will welcome a new vice president of enrollment management and marketing (VPEMM) starting in November. John Frost joins Doane with more than ten years of experience in higher education in roles from recruiting and admissions to, most recently, vice president of enrollment services at the College of Saint Mary in Omaha.
Frost’s role as VPEMM at Doane will allow him to serve students on all of the university’s campuses and locations, in Crete, Lincoln, Omaha and online.
“I’m excited to join Doane University and its 150-year history of educational excellence,” Frost said. “I’m looking forward to spreading the good news about our university and how we will continue to create future leaders globally in the ever-changing world of higher education. I know we are in an excellent position to lead others to reach their educational goals and positively impact the students we serve and their communities.”
As VPEMM, Frost will oversee Doane’s recruitment, admissions, financial aid and marketing efforts and offices. He’ll lead strategies to attract and enroll residential and non-residential undergraduate, transfer, graduate and online students. Frost’s role will also support the university’s work in creating a more inclusive campus community, and a path to an innovative and equity-focused future.
“John’s skillset, leadership qualities and experience in designing recruiting plans for all types of learners made him the perfect candidate to meet Doane’s current needs,” said Dr. Roger Hughes, Doane’s president. “I’m very pleased we have hired John and know our community looks forward to working with him.”
Frost began his career as a reporter, editor and photojournalist for KOLN/KGIN in Lincoln after graduating with his bachelor of science degree in communication from Wayne State College in 2006. Since then, he transitioned into higher education and has worked at private, public, for-profit and community colleges. In the past decade, he has attained experience as assistant director of undergraduate admissions at Webster University in St. Louis; relationship manager and assistant director of regional operations at Bellevue University; director of undergraduate admissions at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale; and vice president of enrollment services at the College of Saint Mary. Frost also holds a master’s degree in organizational performance from Bellevue University.
He has previously served as chair and spokesperson of the Multiculturalism and Diversity Committee for the Nebraska Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admission Officers (NACRAO).
Doane began the search process for a new VPEMM in summer 2022. An internal search committee reviewed applications and narrowed the pool to three candidates. All three candidates visited campus in September 2022 to give presentations to staff and faculty, who provided feedback to the search committee.
"We had a great pool of applicants for the position, with each candidate bringing different strengths,” said Dr. Jennifer Bossard, dean of Doane’s College of Business and VPEMM search committee member. “John's emphasis on relationships stood out as a major strength and will be an asset for leading his team and moving the university forward. His charisma, authenticity, and willingness to implement innovative ideas makes him a great fit for Doane's mission and values."
